Mother Nature will reward you on Saturday. We will too.

You know you’re a runner when a forecast of fifty-something degree temperatures and overcast skies makes your heart leap for joy and has you racing for your shoes and out the door. And believe me, after the awful heat and humidity we’ve suffered this summer, a mid-fifties morning is a true joy; a precious reward from Mother Nature for enduring the last punishing three months.
And yes, that’s the forecast for this Saturday’s Hit The Brixx 5K/10K Run/Walk: overcast and a rather chilly 56 degrees at the 10K start time of 7:45am. Perfect racing conditions. And then when you’re done, you know what happens? You get FREE (yep, that’s right) beer and pizza, lovingly poured and prepared by Brixx Pizza, to compensate you for your super-human speed.
Want to make that pizza and beer really worth it? Consider running both the 10K and the 5K! You should have time to rest for a few minutes after the 10K before lining up for the 5K at 9am. By the time you finish, you’ll have nine miles under your belt and at least that many slices waiting for you at the finish line.
If running’s not your thing, you can walk the 5K at 9:05am. It’s a memorial walk and is a special way to honor a loved one who is no longer with you. Grab your friends and make it a group effort. And then have some pizza and beer fellowship afterward!
Look, there are very few times when you can justify beer and pizza at nine o’clock in the morning. This is your chance. Sign up for Hit The Brixx. And then eat and drink to your heart’s content while it’s nice and cool outside. ‘Cause you never know when Mother Nature will hit us with Indian summer. She’s sneaky, that one.
All races and runs start and finish at the Brixx Pizza 6th Street location (225 E. Sixth Street). The proceeds from the day will benefit KidsPath, the pediatric care program of Hospice & Palliative Care Charlotte Region. You can register for the 10K, 5K, (or both races), the memorial walk, and a kids’ fun run by visiting the registration website.
